To be able to move through the periods of unknowing, of terror, of vulnerability we all experience we need to find courage. Not externally, but within.
If you sit quietly for a time and look inwards, you might find there's a place near your heart (literally courage comes from the Latin cor) where a quiet, ebbing, warmth resides.
Find that little seed. Water it. Love it. Grow it.
It is that little seed of courage that will keep you warm when all else seems cold, dark and unknown.
It is that friend courage who will allow us to sit through our trials and traumas without suppressing, denying or blocking anything, and most importantly without feeling alone.
When life throws spanners, as it invariably does, it’s really easy to feel powerless.
You may not be able to control, predict, or change what has happened, or what is about to unfold. But you do have the power to choose how you prepare, face, and respond to whatever arises; however large or small these spanners may be.
You can choose to sit in the discomfort, the confusion, the pain. You can fight. You can accept.
You can sit with your back straight, walk with a great stride, breathe with a full lung or choose to take rest.
You can choose to carry on, staying true to who you are, not planning or attaching to how you think it ‘should be’.
You can have compassion for other people’s suffering, even if it is the cause of your pain.
You can have compassion for your own suffering.
You can give time, love, honesty, understanding, maybe one day forgiveness.
You have so much power in every situation.
Let your choices be reflective of the type of person you want to be.
