i AM A GIRL.

Gender based discrimination and violence affects women of all ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, nationalities, religions and class, in every city, country and continent on Earth.

No other group faces such widespread persecution, abuse, marginalisation or disqualification.

We need to stop thinking about gender inequality as ‘women’s issues’ and start thinking of it as a societal problem.

In remaining silent, the issue becomes removed from public discourse and over time can manifest itself into shame within those it affects most.

By speaking about gender and sexual discrimination, abuse or violence, we not only put the issue back into people’s minds, but eventually we can break down stigmas and start to see change.

I Am A Girl is an ongoing project about starting the conversation; about empowering those affected and educating society, to give a voice to those who have been directly impacted by gender based discrimination and inspire them to reframe.

No one gets to choose the cards they are dealt, we do get to choose what we let define us.
